Hello! Welcome to Healthy Trail.
My name is Carolyn (Most people call me Caz) and I’m an Aussie married to a Kiwi and we have two young girls. We live in Maribyrnong, Victoria, Australia (9km from Melbourne CBD) and our home is a short 5min walk from the Maribyrnong river. The river trail has become a big part of our lifestyle and we utilise it almost daily, hence how the name “Healthy Trail” evolved.
My husband and I regularly run, ride or walk around the river for exercise. Our two girls have been walked, run or ridden along the river trails since they were growing in my belly and have since been walking, scooting or riding it themselves since they were around 18 months old. As a family, living riverside has created many opportunities for physical activity, fun and lots of adventures.
We live walking distance to most places we need to get to during a normal week. Instead of driving, I have been able to walk to childcare, kinder, school, shops, gym, swimming lessons, numerous parks and even work. As a result of my preference to walk or ride, rather than drive (time/weather permitting), my girls have also become accustomed to this way of living and this habit of using active transport has helped set the foundation for a healthy and active way of living.
So where did Healthy Trail stem from…15 years ago I commenced employment in Workers Compensation, managing WorkCover claims and supporting and coordinating injured workers back to work post injury. I soon moved into the Occupational Health and Safety field where my focus included risk management and injury prevention. As workplace health and wellbeing became a focus area for organisations, my portfolio began to include health and wellbeing, which included coordinating, implementing and promoting healthy lifestyle programs and initiatives to support employees with their own health and wellbeing. Working in these areas of Workplace Health, Safety, Wellbeing and Injury Management enabled me to increase knowledge and skills as well as gain experience across a range of industries, including Workers Compensation, Transport and Logistics, Warehousing, Aviation, Manufacturing and most recently, Public Health.
Workplace Health & Wellbeing eventually became my primary role and it was at this point in my career when I realised I had found where I am meant to be. My employment had suddenly aligned with my passion for living a healthy lifestyle! It excited me to be able to share my passion in a way that enables me to promote, encourage, inspire, motivate and empower others to make their own health and wellbeing a priority.
I’m passionate about living a healthy, active, balanced and fulfilled lifestyle and I lead by example, I don’t just talk the talk. I eat healthfully, most of the time (I have a sweet tooth, chocolate is my weakness), I feel my best when I eat wholesome foods and I eat loads of vegetables! I exercise 6-7 days per week, I average 16,000 steps/day, aim for sufficient sleep and strive to maintain a good level of work/life/family balance and prioritise time to do the things that bring me joy. I also enjoy learning and challenging myself and working towards a goal, as well as decluttering my home and life for greater simplicity. I’m a busy working mum and wife and understand the challenges that come with raising a family, managing a household, working, making time for myself, husband, kids, friends and family, as well as striving to maintain balance and stay healthy and well.
I know what it’s like to be constantly juggling! I seriously get it!!
It was my passion that lead to the creation of Healthy Trail. A place where I can share valuable information and provide guidance, motivation, inspiration, support and empowerment to others who are ready to make long lasting lifestyle changes.
I believe that forming healthy habits with nutrition, physical activity, sleep, having good quality relationships, time to rest and recharge and allow time to do the things that bring us joy, are some of the fundamentals to living a happy, healthy and joy filled life.
